The 100% Made in Italy Certificate – Only at Yesmoke

Logo Certificazione 100% Made in Italyhe Italian government has granted special recognition to the producers of cigarettes that are 100% Italian, and the Institute for the Protection of Italian Manufacturers – Institute per la Tutela dei Produttori Italiani (ITPI) has developed an accompanying "100% Made in Italy” certification procedure . This acknowledgement allows Italian manufacturers to distinguish their products from those of dubious origin, and it provides consumers with certainty about the origin and quality of the goods.

This initiative should help to clarify the current market situation, because today there are manufacturers who claim or suggest that their products are Italian, but they do not have the prerequisites to obtain the Certificate: see, for example, the «carattere italiano» written on the packs of Diana cigarettes, and MS cigarette packs highlighting the colors of the Italian flag on the sports shield – the "Scudetto Tricolore". The TAR of Lazio, Yesmoke Wins: Away with the “Minimum Tax”

The Italian cigarette market has been definitively liberalized with the cancellation of D.L. 94, the so-called «Tassa Minima». This “Minimum Tax” had been contrived to get around the ruling of the European Court of Justice, which on June 24th 2010 had abolished the “Prezzo Minimo”, “Minimum Price” of cigarettes. Read more »

An interesting piece of news, sent out by press agencies and promptly reported by newspapers, is travelling around the peninsula and the islands: British American Tobacco is going to buy twenty million euro's worth of Italian tobacco a year for the next two years.

The announcement was made by the vice president of BAT Italia, Giovanni Carucci, during the Confagricoltura Forum of Taormina, where, if we can believe the newspapers, this man of Big Tobacco seems to have been the absolute protagonist of the event.

Why all the excitement about the purchase of a modest quantity of tobacco, paid at market prices? Twenty million euro corresponds to about 3% of BAT’s turnover in Italy and less than 4% of the Italian tobacco cultivation; in the tobacco market it is only a bit of change. Why is everyone licking the ass of the multinational, and why is no one doing anything for the workers of the production plants that BAT closed, like those in Lecce and in Bologna, whose workers are still in the middle of the street because the company is not keeping its promises? British American Tobacco decided to “delocalize” its production of MS cigarettes from Lecce in southern Italy to Germany even though the Italian plant was making millions in profits, and in the last two years the cigarettes produced climbed from nine to thirteen million tons. Cigarettes: New Government; Same Old Swindle

Santa Rosalia liberaci dal pizzo!Thanks to the “Mille Proroghe” (thousand extensions) decree, Italy’s new Monti Government will earn an additional 15 million euro from tobacco; however, Italian smokers will have to pay out almost 20 million. This is because four and a half are the additional “pizzo” – swindle money – that will go to Philip Morris, British American Tobacco and Japan Tobacco. In fact, the decree plans for an increase of the tax revenue from cigarettes, but not an increase in the tax pressure, which would call for raising the excise aliquot, and this would not be appreciated by Big Tobacco.

All this means that when cigarette costs rise, it is the “cartel” of the three multinationals that raise the prices; it is not the State that decides to increase the taxes. It’s true that when prices rise with this system, the cigarette makers take in more and the State, too, earns more. The problem is that in normal countries, including the countries of the third world, the State receives the entire amount. Read more »
